Commencing in 2024, Beginners Group Courses are offered by Langen Suka on a yearly basis and provide the opportunity for participants with little or no prior experience of Javanese gamelan to enjoy playing elementary to intermediate repertoire in the Solonese style.
2024 Dates
There are four Beginners Group Courses planned for 2024, scheduled to coincide with NSW school term dates. The first session of each term is a free workshop open to the general public as an opportunity to try out the gamelan. Each course then continues with 8 × weekly 90-minute group sessions held on Saturday afternoons.

The number of participants for each course is limited to 12.
Time and Venue
Saturdays (see dates above), 1.30 to 3.00 pm at our Ultimo venue near Sydney Fish Market.
FEE
$120.00 per term, payable in full prior to attending the first session after the free workshop. No refund is available for non-attendance at scheduled sessions, except due to extenuating circumstances. Late enrolment after a course has commenced may be possible.
Requirements
- Minimum age of participants is 18.
- Participants must be able to sit on the floor kneeling or cross-legged with shoes removed.
- There is pedestrian access only to the venue via a ramp or stairs.
